You finally did it! You signed up for that boot camp fitness class that you've always been interested in, but now you're nervous ... What should you eat? What should you wear? What should you bring? Being prepared for training will mean the difference between a good workout and a great workout.

What you should eat -
Avoid any big meals for one to two hours prior to class. If your bootcamp workout is right after lunch, keep it light and avoid fatty, heavy foods. Try to balance your proteins and carbs. Stick with whole-grain bread an a hard-boiled egg or a black-bean burrito with lots of veggies. Stop eating at least an hour before class.

What you should drink - Water is always best. People who don't exercise need at least eight glasses of water per day; people who do exercise, and sweat and breathe hard need more! Hydrate throughout the morning after you first wake up. Drink sips of water all throughout your workout, and chug a bunch of water afterward to replenish lost fluids from sweating and breathing. If you tend to run out of energy during your workout, dilute some pure apple juice in your water bottle. Avoid sugary energy drinks.

What you should wear -
Wear comfortable clothing that doesn't draw attention to yourself. Skip the skimpy clothes, because many boot camp classes take place outdoors, and you're just asking for a sunburn. If your clothes are too loose, you won't be able to move very well, and the instructor won't be able to see your alignment. Stretching clothes are nice, as long as they're not too tight. You want your motions to be unrestricted.

What shoes you need -
New workout shoes should be purchased every six months or every 100 hours of hard exercise, because they wear out like everything else in life. Bootcamp involves a lot of high-impact, strenous activity with your feet. If your shoes are falling apart, you are more likely to be injured. Buy shoes that have good traction, cushioning and stability. Boot camp is not the place for ShapeUp shoes.

What you bring to class - Bring your water bottle, a towel and dress in layers. If you have a spare change of clothing on your body when you walk into class, then you can take those things off or put them back on as the moment suits you. The towel can be used as a mat against the ground or to mop up sweat. Don't forget to bring your good attitude and perseverance, too! Because you'll need them!
